I charge a flat rate of £200 per day for use of the space, use of all equipment, and me engineering/ producing the project.

Shorter sessions, or additional time editting/ mixing/ mastering are charged at £25/ hour.

Where it fits around other commitments, practice sessions are charged at £15/ hour.

This is significantly cheaper than professional studios. I am doing this to help people who don’t have the budget to access a pro studio, but still want a pro sounding record of their creativity. The options shouldn’t just be to spend £1000 + recording a single track in a pro studio, or do it yourself in your bedroom. I appreciate that people have different needs and budgets, and want to provide bespoke services to add the most value where you need it. This can cover the following:

Pre production: I have foud it useful for bands to have a practice at On The Outside studios a week before recording is booked in. When you are confident in doing a good run through a take of each song, I can mic up each instrument and get a “live multi track” recording, and do a quick mix of this to listen to ahead of the session. This can include, or not include vocals depending on what you need. This highlights which parts are working, and which might need more attention. Having an instumental version might help in writing lyrics, or builidng layers, harmonies, and overdubs. If you want support in the production process, it will help me to have familiarity with the tracks.

To me, this is a vital part of the process, and can save a lot of time when we are on the clock. Depending on the length of the actual session, I can negotiate on the rate charged for pre production. For example - If this only takes up an hour of my time, I will only charge for an hour - I won’t charge you for the practice space.

Even if we don’t do any pre production in person - It is useful for me to get an understanding of what you want to achieve. Setting up a Session WhatsApp and Spotify playlist is a good way of having reference tracks to hand when we are thinking about influences, tones, structures, the sonic pallette. I don’t charge for this.

I have written a song, but need help to finish/ produce it: I have access to an exceptional pro level drummer who can do session work accross a variety of genres for an additional £15 per hour. I play guitar, bass and midi keys at no additional cost. We can build your track up from the ground very quickly. If you have written a song, and want help realising your vision, we can do this in an affordable way to a very high standard.

I already record at home: We can get really great drum and bass takes in a way that you just can’t get when recording at home. There is a place for amp plug ins, and programmed drums, but if you want the finished track to reflect you as a band, and how you sound live - I would always recommnend live drums, and bass recorded through a good valve amp. If you want to do the guitars and vocals at home - we can just focus on where I can add the most value. I can export processed stems, or raw individual WAV’s if you want to engineer the tracks yourself.

Mixing & Mastering: Depending on budget, I can provide a mixed and mastered recording, or upload stems of the session for you to send off to a mix engineer. If budget allows- I would recomend someone independent to mix the track, who hasn’t been living in the project, an who hasn’t heard the song 100 times. However, you either need to find someone with a proven track record of getting good mixes in your chosen genre, or use someone that I would recommend. Anyone with a laptop claims to be a mix engineer, make sure you are happy with what they are proposing, and the evidence of their previous work. If not, we can mix the track together.
